"I'm Getting Drunk!"

This is how my mother answered the phone when I called her tonight. Apparently she went out with my dad, my aunt & uncle, and a bunch of their mutual friends. My mother isn't a drinker ... at all. Her libation of choice is the ever popular white wine spritzer. For God's sake, it's already a puny-ass glass of white zinfandel, do you really need to mix it with Sprite? Anyway, we'll see how this goes tonight. I'm eager to hear her stories tomorrow, although the last time she got hammered she started having hot flashes on the drive home and started taking off her clothes. Never a dull moment with my mother.

Sadly, the title of this blog does not apply to me. I've noticed I don't get as excited about drinking anymore. Very sad. Maybe it's because I'd rather be sleeping, since I still feel as if I'm making up for those sleepless nights I experienced when Brandt was first born. I consider myself still recovering.

I wish you all the Happiest of New Year's, and if you can, you really should go out and exclaim to the world, "I'm getting drunk!"

Just make sure someone drives you home. Don't call me, I'll be sleeping.

Portrait Innovations

So we tried Portrait Innovations yesterday ... the one in Chandler. I guess this is NOT the time of year to get quick pictures because they were running 30 minutes behind schedule which sucked because Brandt started getting a bit fussy. His pictures were ok ... not as good as they could have been. But here's the breakdown of what we got and you tell me if it was a good deal because the only thing I can compare it to is Picture People and they are stupidly expensive:

48 wallets
10 5x7's
8 3x5's
5 8x10's
2 10x13's
a 10x13 calendar
..... and a partridge in a pear tree.

All of this for $80. Oh, and they threw in the CD of pictures. I'm thinking this is pretty good, considering they are digital pictures and we got them all the same day. But tell me if other places are cheaper ... I'd love to know.

Now my only question is what are we going to do with all of these freaking pictures?

The Pink Stuff

Brandt has officially joined the ear infection club. His fever started Tuesday night and never really got better ... it went down slightly with Tylenol but then shot right back up. Wednesday night he was up a few times crying and Thursday morning he woke up with 102.4 degree temp. I called and made an appointment with the doctor, gave him a squirt of Tylenol and then hopped in the shower while Joe watched him. 5 minutes into my shower Joe barges into the bathroom to let me know that Brandt just threw up ... three times. Poor baby ... he felt so awful. After my shower I went into the other room and held him in my lap while he watched Sesame Street ... although I'm pretty sure he was just staring off into space because he usually could care less about what's on TV.

At the doctor's office I explain everything that had happened during the past few days and he checked his ears only to discover that Brandt has an ear infection in both ears. He hands me a prescription for Amoxicillin and I'm on my way.

The rest of the day Brandt was pretty low key, although he didn't want anything to eat except a few goldfish crackers here and there. I tried to squirt some Pedialyte in his mouth every chance I could get and I made sure he nursed more than usual. His fever stayed up all day despite his every 4 hours dose of Tylenol. I'm hoping by tomorrow the pink stuff will have kicked in and he'll start feeling much better. At least all of this happened early in the week. I would have been so pissed if he was this sick on Christmas Eve/Christmas.

Shocking, although I'm not surprised

Britney's Sister is Pregnant

She's 16! I guess Britney is the perfect role model for her younger sister ...

I can't imagine having a baby at such a young age ... sometimes I think 27 was too young for me to have a kid. But at least I feel like I've done a decent amount of things with my life ... traveled a lot, finished college, enjoyed some appropriate college-aged partying, had a good job. It was definitely an acceptable time for me to have a baby.

Although I must say, do celebrities really go through the same struggles as the rest of us when it comes to living with a newborn? I really think that having 'night nannies' (or any nanny for that matter) kind of decreases their credibility as parents. I mean, yes, having help from anyone is a good thing and most definitely appreciated during those first few weeks. But I'm sure Tori Spelling and Katie Holmes made sure they were able to get their beauty sleep at night while they paid someone else to get up with their kid - it must be nice. Maybe I'm just bitter ... ok, yes I am bitter ... but I feel WAY more accomplished for doing it by myself. Although there were plenty of nights when I wished I could have left the house to stay at a hotel while someone else got up with Brandt ...

And I want to do this again and have another baby? What am I thinking?!

Why I Hate People, part 2

My baby has a fever and a cough - his cough has been getting progressively worse in the past two days. Now this could be unrelated to the random germy lady who touched him at Mervyn's, but I'm going to blame her entirely for contaminating my son. His cough got much worse today and between 5:45pm and 7:00pm his temperature rose almost a whole degree. I'm hoping the Tylenol helps, but I have a feeling we're in for a long night.

I could slap that woman.

Hands Off!

What is with people?! I seriously had such an annoying day that I can without a doubt say, I really hate people today.

I decided to go to Mervyn's because they were having their buy 1 sweater get 2 free sale ... sounded like a good idea at the time. So I'm casually walking around collecting sweaters to try on when I hear someone coughing up a lung nearby. I kind of look up and see this woman walking around the sweaters. She's walking kind of my direction so I swerve a little (VERY difficult to maneuver my massive stroller through the cramped aisles). Apparently she had her eye on my kid because she turns from her aisle to my aisle. I was stuck ... no where to turn except to back up, which apparently I wasn't quick enough. She proceeded to pick up my baby's hands with her hands (as gross as they were) and mutter something-or-other to him while I stare at her with this look of disgust, disbelief and scathing hatred. She paid no attention, obviously, because she moved from his hands to his face. This woman, who at this point I'm convinced has every communicable disease known to man, touched Brandt's hands and face ... then went on her merry way, paying no attention to me whatsoever. No comment about how cute he was or that she loves babies ... nothing. It was a "touch" and run. I didn't even exist to her. I was livid. I discreetly squirted hand sanitizer into my hand and then rubbed it all over Brandt's hands. I know 'they' say that the alcohol in hand sanitizer can be harmful to kids if ingested but at this point I would rather he blow a .001 on the breathalyzer than to become infected with the bubonic plague.

So I continue shopping, still a little annoyed but not enough to cut my excursion short. Until some other woman touches Brandt on the head. And then another on the arm. What was going on? Did he have a sign blinking above his head that exclaimed, "Touch Me, I'm Cute!" None of these women were together ... all of these instances were separate and unrelated, although still annoying and very uncalled for.

I consider myself to be pretty laid back when it comes to my kid ... not over-protective or crazy about germs (usually) but for some reason I was completely freaked out after all of the random touching today. I put down the shirt and shoes I was planning to buy and high tailed it to the car, where after strapping him in the carseat, I wiped him down with a baby wipe ... hands, face, head.

For heaven's sake people, keep you F*!%ING hands to your self!

Yay for Sprint!

Yes, you read that correctly. For those of you who knew how much I hated them before when I had a POS phone that they wouldn't help me with ... well, they have managed to redeem themselves.

Months ago I bought a new phone on ebay (because like previously mentioned, sprint would not help at all). A couple weeks ago, Brandt must have banged my phone on the tile one too many times because all of a sudden people couldn't hear me through the phone. Very frustrating for all parties involved and resulted in a massive argument with my mother ... which could be a whole other post.

Anyway, today I decided to skip the gym and go to the sprint store instead. I told them about my problem and the guy said it sounded like a bad microphone but since I didn't have insurance it would cost $35. Fine, I said, because $35 really isn't that much money when it comes to cell phones.

I come back an hour later and I see the guy walk over to the counter with two phones in his hand. I ask him if it was the microphone that was broken and he said something, but I wasn't paying attention at that point because I noticed the second phone he brought looked identical to my phone. Probably sounding like an idiot I asked, "Why are there two phones?" He said it was because they couldn't fix my phone so they were giving me a new one. I said, "Well, how much is that?" He replied, "35 dollars." I said, "Why $35?" Apparently he perceived this question to be a bit threatening because he was then on the defensive and carefully explained to me that it costs $35 because I don't have insurance. I clarified, "No, why is it ONLY $35?" But then I realized I sounded even sillier for asking for an explanation of why they were selling me a new phone for so cheap. So I said, "Nevermind! Thank you very much."

Yay for my new phone ... and Yay for Sprint for stepping up and providing decent customer service.

Nipple Piercing

Brandt bit me last night while nursing and it hurt like hell. I screamed so loud that my husband jumped and Brandt started crying. So I ask you, why in the hell would someone voluntarily do that to themselves? Because I'm pretty sure that piercing your nipple hurts way more than when Brandt bit me, and that hurt really badly.

I'm hoping he learned not to do it again after my scream scared him. I've heard that you're supposed to take the baby off your boob and put them down and walk away, so that way the learn that biting = no more boob. But everytime Brandt has bitten me I haven't been in a situation where I can do that. The first time he bit me (just a little nip) I was in the Target fitting room so I couldn't just put him down and walk away. And last night it was right before bed, so he had to finish nursing because that's all he was going to get until 6:30 am.

Argh ... my goal was to nurse for a year so I could wean him to cow's milk instead of formula ... just 3 more months ... I'm hoping he stops the biting.

I’m a good mom ... at least for today

Today I feel like I ROCK as a mom. Do you ever have those days, where everything goes pretty smoothly and orderly and you feel like you've managed to get a lot accomplished? This is my day today:

Brandt slept all night, woke up at 6:30. He ate and played and hung out with us until nap time. Then he decided to take a 2.5 hour nap! TWO AND A HALF HOURS!!! Unheard of ... he usually sleeps 45 minutes ... sometimes I get 1.5 hours out of him ... so I was THRILLED this morning!

Then he woke up, we went to Target because I needed to refill his baby food stash. I managed to get an AMAZING deal on some Tide detergent. Regularly $12.98, on clearance for $6.44 ... rang up for $3.24!!!! I felt like I got the deal of the decade.

We came home, I fed Brandt some lunch. He ate very well ... some leftover peas, apricots, half of a YoBaby, and a whole jar of turkey (yummy, I know). Then we played some more ... he practiced his "walking" and we had good play time.

Then I looked at the clock and decided it was time for his afternoon nap. I changed him, took off all his clothes (because his room stays warm) and put him down. I turned on his CD and left the room. I heard him making a little bit of noise, but no fussing so I gave him 10 minutes. Then I checked on him ... he was asleep! Amazing!! Let's see how long he sleeps this afternoon.

I feel like today has been the best day because Brandt has done what he is "supposed" to do. Not that I did anything differently, but I feel like I am a better mom today.
