Sleeping Through the Night

We're not anymore, and I'm a little nervous about where things go from here.

Brandt has started waking up in the middle of the night, climbing out of his crib and coming into our room. This started Christmas Eve and hasn't stopped since. Usually it's around 2am or 2:30 that he gets up, and it takes us anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to get him back to sleep. Then he wakes up again at 5:30 and is up for the day. Luckily I went to bed last night at 9:30 so I got a decent amount of sleep ... but I'm worried about Brandt. He's supposed to get a certain number of hours of sleep each night, and take a one to two hour nap everyday. Needless to say the naps have been a struggle as well. He climbs out of the crib for those and it can take up to two hours for us to get him to go to sleep for a nap.

Help?

I'm so sorry. This sounds almost like having a newborn again! You must feel terrible.

Sadly, I have no advice for you. Just genuine sympathy!

Crib tent? Neither of my kids ever climbed out of their crib, but for people who have had kids do this, they swear by them! Good luck-let me know if you find something that works!

Alex's sleep habits always changed whenever there was some kind of developmental change happening. For instance, when he was about to start walking, his sleep habits changed drastically. Anytime he's sick- all of a sudden he's in our bed all the time again. We can always tell when he's having a "growth spurt" because he'll start sleeping a lot more than usual. I know it's not the "appropriate" advice, but a wonderful fellow mother once told me that if I babygated Alex into my room in the morning (or into his, depending on my needs) with toys/videos, etc., I could sleep longer and he would keep himself entertained. For nap fights, we always just emphasized the importance of quiet time in his room, on his bed. Whenever we put it this way, Alex was less likely to fight taking a nap- and he still got the down time he needed. As far as getting enough sleep, Alex never has gotten as many hours as he should, but he seems to be okay. Then again, he has an unusually high level of energy until he drops for the night...but still, just wanted you to know that this sounds normal to me because Alex did/does the same thing. Hang in there!
